Community Litter Cleanup Program

Lewis County Solid Waste along with funding from the Department of Ecology sponsors a litter program for illegal dump sites and litter on county right of way. This program has been very successful, and has been ongoing for many years in Lewis County and utilizes the labor from The Lewis County jail which allows the offenders the opportunity to give back to our community.

The Litter crew consists of an inmate supervisor and minimum risk offenders/trustees from the Lewis County jail. These trustees work a minimum of 40 hours with a rotating group of offenders to ensure they do not know which area or location they are serving on a particular day. Solid Waste works very closely with the Sheriff's office and Jail administrators to keep this program operating and help keep our County litter free. Solid Waste along with the Public Works department also sponsors a litter crew from Reliable Enterprises that consists of a Supervisor and up to 4 developmentally disabled workers of which do a wonderful job in keeping litter picked up along County roads.
