Healthy Communities

Healthy community environments don’t happen by accident. Lewis County is concerned about health effects of rising obesity rates and chronic diseases like heart disease, diabetes, and cancer. It is time to take action. Community leaders recognize that residents can’t be more active or eat healthier foods without changes in their community environment. Education and awareness alone won’t result in change.

Making sustainable community changes involves long term partnerships among public health, private business, medical providers, municipal government, community advocates, transportation planners, and schools.
